In the warmth and rub of the sand under our bodies on shore, our mind goes beyond the tumult of Long Island’s waves and shallows to seek out the peaceful, meditative calm beneath. Imagination steers us to what lies below the seas and bays in “Patience Reef” - to the colors and creatures not found on land, the absolute silence, and the life of a vast, undulating, world not our own.
"Patience Reef" is a combination of 2 pieces of cloth...one sheer silk organza (the top piece) and on the bottom is cotton. Each piece was dyed separately using the arashi (stitched resist) shibori method on the silk organza then dyed and the itajame (clamped resist) shibori method on the cotton and dyed in multiple dye baths.
